Breaking Barriers

Suzi is a front-end developer at Cinch Financial. This wasn’t the life she imagined for herself, but she has come to terms with the fact that she cannot, in fact, become a dragon. She’s bad at talking about herself in the third person.

What do you geek out about?
Board games, craft beer, food

What does a typical day look like for you?
I hit snooze at least 5 times before finally rolling out of bed and pulling on clothes that are maybe clean. My morning exercise consists of running for the bus and then running for the train. I get coffee and sometimes a breakfast sandwich from Boston Brewin Coffee on Bromfield Street before heading into work where I say hello to my coworkers and then ignore them until lunch, because we’re developers and socializing isn’t in our nature.

What is the favorite part of your day?
When I close my eyes and slip into dreamless slumber.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
When I was a wee freshman in college, I had an upperclassman tell me to figure out which corners I should cut so I don’t work myself to death. I didn’t listen and I wish I did, because looking back, my academic career was needlessly stressful. This advice has served me well at work when we decide what design concepts make it into code. Thanks, Joe Thomas!

What other women inspire you?
Janelle Monaë, Elizabeth Warren, Laverne Cox, Margaret Atwood, my mom

What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I’m a recovering English major. I kicked the book habit in 2016 but have relapsed since the new year.

Where can people find you?
On the Twitters!
