By the end of this course, you’ll be able to explain key terms such as microaggressions, microassaults, microinsults, microinvalidations, and microaffirmations. You’ll be able to discuss how to respond to microaggressions, whether you have committed the microaggression, received it, or simply witnessed it. You’ll review the key concepts of intent and impact and listen to real-life stories from people sharing their own experiences.
You’re going to learn where microaggressions come from, discuss how this concept has evolved over time, review some related terminology and language, be able to recognize microaggressions when they occur, examine various ways to respond to microaggressions from three different perspectives, and share critical strategies and frameworks for how to address microaggressions in the workplace.

In Module One, we're going to be laying the groundwork. We will review our Inclusion Geeks framework and guidelines. We'll go over a quick refresher on some foundational terminology and concepts, and we'll discuss how bias is tied to microaggressions.
In Module Two, we're going to dive deep into microaggressions. Not only will we discuss what they are, but we'll also explore the origins of this concept. We’ll unpack how it manifests, discuss, who experiences microaggressions, how they impact our lives in and out of the workplace and review some common types and themes.
In Module Three, we're going to dive into some research around microaggressions. We'll talk about the impact of microaggressions on several different levels. This will not only give you a better sense of the concept, but we're also going to introduce you to some of those background studies and key foundational work that has been conducted.
In Module Four, we're going to get into some action. It's not enough to simply educate ourselves on what microaggressions are and how they show up. We also want to review how we respond. We'll share some tips and strategies for both individuals and organizations.
In Module Five, we'll wrap up by creating an action plan. This will be a time for you to reflect on what you've learned, and think about how you might be able to impact your workplace over the coming days, weeks, months, or even years.
